Baby Sleep Tight
Baby Sleep Tight
Having had children spanning over three decades I have been able to look back and really reflect on what advice has been given out there to all new mums over the years, each trying to get there babies and toddlers to have that golden all night sleep.
When I had my first child almost 30 years ago, there were no videos, no internet and no social media. Local friends and a limited choice of parenting books were my only source of information and support, thankfully by the time I have my third child a few years ago a lot had changed.
Now we have have access to so many types of information and can talk to other mums with just a flick of a switch, do we feel less confused and less judged for the parenting decisions that we make or the opposite?
My first baby kept me a wake most nights only sleeping for a few hours at a time, often only going to sleep when she was in a baby carrier. I read Dr Spock the popular parenting guru at the time and remember vividly chucking it out the window; I just couldn’t find my babies sleeping problems in it at all.
My second baby literally at times would only sleep in her car seat with me driving around in the early ours of the morning until she fell a sleep. I felt lonely, depressed and completely exhausted, how I wish I had my iphone and kindle back then.
By the time I had my third child a few years ago so much had changed. I was faced with Gina Ford, Jo Frost, Tracy Hogg, as well as parenting experts both online and living locally to me.
Personally I took what I liked and could relate too from various media sources including my friends and other mums, I learnt to relax and to listen to my instinct.
So whether you decide to read books , speak to other mums or seek the advice of a sleep expert, do what is best for you and your baby because in the end this is what will bring you the most success.
Sleep well
